Soaking

Christ Church New Malden and St John’s Soaking Centre

We live increasingly pressured lives. The pace of life seems to get faster; so many find themselves often tired and weary. We give out a lot – and we, like the disciples, need those times of rest and refreshing.

Throughout the bible though, God makes clear the importance of time for rest and refreshment and renewal. Jesus Himself shows this after His disciples returned from having been sent out to minister .... "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” (Mark 6:31)

The psalms also reflect this invitation to Be Still, and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10)

What a wonderful invitation....to come into the Lord’s presence and be with Him, quietly away from the bustle of everyday life so that we can personally rest in His presence and be renewed by His Spirit.

Soaking is simply to spend some quiet time with God in a safe place, resting and allowing the Holy Spirit time to touch, speak and minister to us, expectant of His work in our lives. It is not completely passive, but rather an ’active rest’. Unhurried time when we are not struggling in prayer, but learning to rely on God’s Spirit and hear from Him.

The evenings will generally be on the second Monday of month at Christ Church and the fourth at St John’s. Please check beforehand as there may be changes.  Soaking evenings for the Spring term are on the following dates:

  • 13 February & 12 March at Christ Church; and
  • 30 January, 27 February & 26 March at St John's.

The soaking centre will be open from 7.45pm - 9.30pm. Please feel free to come and go as you wish, spending as much time as you need.
