Prayer

Prayer is a vital part of our life at Christ Church. This reflects our belief that whilst we can achieve nothing in our own power, nothing is impossible with God. All of our activities are therefore surrounded by prayer, including the following specific ways:

The Monthly Parish Prayer Meeting takes place between 9.30 and 10.30 am on the fourth Sunday of each month. The venue alternates between Christ Church and St John’s. These meetings are coordinated by our Deputy Churchwarden, Cecily Scarlett, and usually focus prayer upon special events happening around the time they are held as well as regular parts of the life of Christ Church and St John’s.

The Thursday Morning Prayer Meeting is held in the Orchard Room at Christ Church between 9.30 and 10.30 am. This meeting again focuses prayer on special events or concerns as well as regular parts of the life of Christ Church. It is led by Tony and Joan Penny.

The Prayer for Healing Group is committed to praying for the healing of those known to members of Christ Church who are ill or in need. This group is led by Guy Walker.

The Grapevine Prayer Meeting occurs after the six30 service on the second Sunday of each month. It concentrates on prayer requests made by members of the Grapevine. This meeting is usually attended by helpers at the Grapevine but anyone is welcome to come and pray for its members and their concerns.

Prayer amongst the Clergy team happens regularly each week. On Tuesday mornings our Vicar, Stephen Kuhrt, meets for prayer firstly with the Churchwardens and later with Associate Vicar of St John’s, Helen Durant-Stevensen and with Christ Church’s External Youth Worker, Nathan Larkin. On Wednesday afternoons Stephen also meets for prayer with the curates of Christ Church, Helen Hancock and Carolyn Lucas. The clergy, other service leaders and musicians also meet to pray before all of the services that take place each Sunday at Christ Church.

Prayer Ministry is particularly available after the six30 service at Christ Church. We plan to expand this provision to cover all of our services in the near future. Prayer is discreet and information given during the course of this are treated in confidence.

Prayer before other events. Prayer before projects such as the Grapevine or Alpha is vital, and the same goes for our Children’s and Youth Groups.

Braschi's prayer group - meets once a month to pray for Guido and Linda Braschi, two of our Mission Partners

Latin Link Prayer Group - meets once a month to pray for Missionaries in South America. This group is run by Catherine Evans.

Prayer Topics is a Parish booklet published bi-monthly listing for each day different prayer needs for Christ Church, St John’s and issues within the wider world. Compiled by Cecily Scarlett, Prayer Topics is contributed to by the clergy, the missionary ‘link people’, and leaders of the various groups within our two churches.

A ‘Prayer Committee’ meets regular to review and encourage the development of our prayer at Christ Church. It is chaired by Kim and Anna White.
